The fort, also known as Buaile Oscar, encloses an area of 300m by 150m on the summit of the hill of Beinn Freiceadain (ND059558). The north and east slopes are so steep that no artificial defences are necessary. However, enclosing the rest of the hill is a substantial 3m thick rampart, now badly overgrown. Unusually, this rampart is set down the hill on a natural terrace. Quarry pits on the hill may suggest where the building material for the fort came from. A chambered cairn lies within the fort, showing the importance given to the site before the fort was built millennia later. Indeed, Beinn Freiceadain means 'Watch-hill'.
